As a segway into Black History Month and celebrating 100 days in school, 500 Assistant Building Principal Mrs. Moore created a 100 Quotes for 100 Days Bulletin Board for students to connect with.
The bulletin board consists of 100 inspiring quotes from prominent Black figures throughout history, and it has been widely received. Mrs. Moore said, “I am so pleased with the impact this display has had on our students. There are times we see students standing in front of the board reading the quotes and really thinking about the message that is conveyed. It is a powerful reminder of how to live their lives.”
The boards seem to be a way for students to calm down and reconnect as they read the inspiring quotes. “One of the goals was to give students access to important people from different timelines the opportunity to see that they can achieve things in life as well.” Said 5th Grade teacher, Mr. Fowlkes. He went on to say, “Students who don’t have confidence in themselves can pick anyone from the board to relate to. When they find that person, their quote can provide that information for them. The bulletin board is also a way for students to learn more about influential Black people other than the ones that are always taught.”
