For Women’s History Month, Ms. McConnell’s ELA classes are focussing on a different important woman in history every day by watching short videos, reading articles, and answering prompts related to the person.
Ms. McConnell began doing similar activities for Black History Month last year, and she noticed how much her students enjoyed them. Because of this, she decided to extend the activities into March for Women’s History.
When asked what they liked about this activity, students responded positively. Ben S. said, “You can learn about people back then and how they got treated.” Another student, Tyaijah G. said, “I can learn about my people and my heritage, like what they had to endure and where they got their names.”
Ms. McConnell’s Women’s History Month activity empowers students and shows them that anyone can overcome adversity.
