Today was a very exciting day in our 500 Building! Not only were students able to participate in our Pod/Team Dress Down Day, we were also able to highlight a very special class pet. Some classrooms have class pets like a hamster, a mouse, or a rabbit. Some even have a dog! But Mrs. Wallace, the 500 Building Library Media Specialist keeps a snake named Martin in the library and the students adore him!
Martin is an Albino Corn Snake and he is four years old. He’s lived in the 500 Library since he was a baby and he loves keeping warm in his tank or in the sweater sleeves of anyone who holds him.
“I like that he can get out and he’s really friendly.”
-Natalie F., 5th Grade
Mrs. Wallace said Martin, “provides an interesting aspect to the library, encourages learning about new animals, and helps students with being responsible for caring for something small and fragile.”
When asked what they love about Martin, students had a lot to say. “I like the snake because he has the same name as my brother,” said Santiago F., a 5th Grader. Natalie F. who is also a 5th Grader said, “I like that he can get out and he’s really friendly.”
