School Profile

Collegium Charter School (CCS) is a tuition-free, independent public school offering families a choice for their children’s elementary and secondary education. History

Collegium Charter School was founded in January of 1999 by a dedicated group of West Chester residents led by Bill Winters, Anne Rich, and Beth Jones. The founders’ goal was to open a school that provided an educational choice for families offering strong academics as well as programs not readily available in the local school districts. On September 29, 1999, the school opened with 39 students in kindergarten through sixth grade attending on its first day. The second year saw tremendous growth; over 500 students enrolled in kindergarten through seventh grades. Currently, enrollment exceeds 2,800 students in grades K to 12. Our first class of seniors graduated in 2006.

Faculty

Collegium Charter School has approximately 560 employees with 313 faculty members. Bachelor degrees or higher are held by teaching faculty members, with over 60% holding Masters degrees.

Academic

Collegium’s High School operates on a six-day cycle, with both A/B block-scheduled classes & daily offerings. The school offers approximately one additional instructional hour per day and 15 additional school days per year compared to the surrounding public schools. Spanish language is a required course for all grades. Please refer to the High School Program of Studies (Academic Handbook) available on our website for a listing of courses and their descriptions. CCS submits the supplemental materials for college applications through Naviance Edocs. Students are encouraged to apply online.

Graduation Requirements

Collegium Charter School’s graduation requirements are based on criteria determined by the CCS Board of Trustees. Our requirements exceed the standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Collegium does not award partial credit for courses not completed.

  1. To earn credit for courses taken, students must achieve a 60% or better in each course.

To be considered for an exception, a written request must be submitted to the principal and CEO. The written request will be considered, and the principal and CEO will provide a written decision. Grading System

All grades are reported as percentages. Collegium does not report or convert percentage grades to a 4-point scale. Collegium Charter High School supports the philosophy that homework is an essential element of student learning, preparation for post-secondary educational pursuits, and the development of responsibility. Teachers will only require students to complete a homework assignment if they feel the particular assignment is in the best interest of the learners. To evaluate student progress, completion of homework assignments will be monitored, and the skills practiced in homework assignments may be assessed in class.

Grading Scale

  • 90-100%: A
  • 80-89%: B
  • 70-79%: C
  • 60-69%: D
  • 0-59%: F

Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses are weighted an additional 7 points in GPA calculation. Honors courses are weighted an additional 5 points in GPA calculation. This value is not added to the final percentage grade for a class, and the additional points are not reflected in the percentage grade reported on a report card or transcript. Class rank is determined by the weighted GPA.

Dual Enrollment

All juniors and seniors have the opportunity to apply to take courses through Immaculata University onsite at CCS, taught by an Immaculata University professor. Students who earn a C or higher will be awarded both high school and college credit.
