Ms. Snyder’s Third Grade class began learning rounding with an interactive rounding game using the ViewBoard — a digital whiteboard.
This week, students worked on rounding numbers to the nearest hundred to advance Ms. Snyder through the different worlds of the math game based on Super Mario Bros.
“This activity not only worked on the math skill of rounding but it also demonstrated teamwork and classroom community as students worked towards the same goal,” said Ms. Snyder. The students enjoyed learning using the interactive feature of the Viewboard because it made them feel like they were part of the game!
When Ms. Snyder’s students were asked what they liked about the game, Isabella K. said, “It was learning in a fun way. I got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, and it felt just like that!”
Student engagement and participation in learning made this activity successful as it was designed around student interests. William K. said, “I enjoyed how there were different levels.” and Janiya C. said, “I liked how it was like Mario, and it helped me learn.”
